Why is the light scary?

"You can easily forgive a child who is afraid of the dark, the real tragedy of life is when men are afraid of the light."

If someone asked me what your favourite quote is. I would not hesitate for a second before saying that this quote from Plato is my favourite.

The quote is pretty self explanatory,  but it raises a question. A question which is very important for me personally. Why would someone be afraid of the light.? Especially a man who is an adult and can differentiate between good and bad.? Why would he be afraid of the light.?

One of the reasons can be rejection. The society has laid down certain norms and criterion for everyone. Telling them how they should lead their life, how they should practice a certain set of things and not practice another set of things. How you should have a job by a certain age, be married by a certain age and raise kids by a certain age.

If you don't do all this, then the society labels you an outcast, it disregards you, it rejects you. Why would you not do it the way everyone is doing it and do it some other way? How dare you? You don't deserve to live amongst us.

And that fear of rejection is pulling us, we are just a bunch of dogs, tied to a cart being pulled in whatever direction the driver will take us. We bark, growl and bite for a certain period of time but eventually we maintain a pace with the cart and accept and we hate those who managed to free themselves from the cart.

Not because we hate them, simply because we are jealous of them. Because we are not them.
Don't let society put you down.
